Welles family papers, 1673-1955.

Primarily papers of Solomon and Gideon Welles of Wethersfield, Connecticut. Consists of correspondence to Solomon Welles, one dated 1784 from Samson Occom about religious services in Albany, New York, and two from Solomon's brother Gideon of Canterbury, Connecticut; a Justice of the Peace record of Solomon Welles and a notebook that includes notations on his children's births and marriages; military records; deeds to and from Gideon Welles; ships' papers and customs documents for the Sloop Fair Trader , the Schooner Oliver, and the Sloop Dolphin, commanded by Captain Edward Bulkley, who sailed to the West Indies, once for transporting six Negroes; estate records of Gideon Welles; and assorted legal documents. Also correspondence of Lemuel A. Welles and notes and correspondence of Florence Welles Carpenter regarding the history of the Welles, Carpenter, Griswold, Harris, Pilsbury and Warner families. Also typescripts and Photostats of the original documents.
